Writers - Never Throw Anything Away

By: George Wallace

This is to protect yourself. Ideas are like fine wine, they need time to ripen and mature to full value. In this day and age of inexpensive RAM for computers, dirt cheap hard drives, and dirt cheap CD backup, no other writing activity is as important as the backup of files. Even your deletions in the editing process, don’t just toss your ideas off into the never-never land of the Ether; instead copy and paste them to a file called- - “Editing snippets from (- - - - - -)”.

You just never know when you might be going over some old files looking for some item, and either come across an unpolished diamond in the rough, or a sparkling glint that inspires you to an unexpected new level of creativity.

Christmas is over for 2006 as I write this today, and I was just going through some old paper files last night looking for junk to toss. I found this little item which I penned on Dec. 14, 2001.

Doggone Christmas Season

Doggone! Christmas Season is crawlin’ up again!
First it was Halloween with kids and candy and bizmal!
Then it was Thanksgiving with roast turkey and cranberries.
Everyone has a hand reaching’ for my wallet!

Doggone! Christmas Season is drawin’ nigh again!
Fruit cakes are stacked in the center isle at the mall.
The discount stores are filled with red nosed reindeer.
Downtown streets smell of pine trees and suet.

Doggone! Christmas Season is crawlin’ up again!
Save me from Santa Claus and his dwarves so small.
Protect my credit cards and accounts from overdraw.
Save my job so I can pay my Christmas Season bills!

Doggone! Christmas Season is crawlin’ up again!
Frost means antifreeze and studded tires for first snowfall.
New gloves and parkas and galoshes too!
Everyone has a hand reaching’ for my wallet!
O Lord, Please save my job so I can pay my Christmas Season bills!

Doggone! Christmas Season is drawin’ nigh again!

Great poetry it is not. As a marker of sentiment however, it does convey a message for the drowning consumer that I thought worthwhile to share.
