Some Guidelines For A Better Fly Fishing Experience

By: Chris Channing

Fly fishing is a tough form of fishing that involves much patience, a rigor attitude, and the determination to catch a tricky prey. If the prey seems to escape you time after time, there are a few guidelines to fly fishing that can make the experience more efficient- and give you better results in practicing them.

Being quiet is always a virtue for a fisherman- but especially so for the average fly fisherman. Fly fishing is much more dependent upon silence since the fisherman is actually in the water- which will easily spook fish should be make too many movements or sounds. Keep the radio at home, and reconsider bringing any pets along if you wish to have a good overall catch.

Sometimes remaining still means getting rid of the insects trying to eat you alive. If such a case, actually wearing different colors can help ward off different types of insects. Dark colors such as black or dark blue and even lighter obscene colors such as yellow and red have been known to attract all types of annoying pests. Also consider obtaining insect repellant for optimal results.

The sun is another common threat to fly fishermen. The sun likes to put a glare onto the water that is hard to get around, unless shade comes through foliage or through clouds. If one isn't so lucky, try obtaining polarized sunglasses to get the job done. They'll be expensive, but every good fly fisherman should have a pair handy.

Just like any form of fishing, fly fishing means getting to know what fish like and where they like to congregate. Experiment with different types of bait and try moving around where necessary. Through a few days of hard testing, one can figure out which bait is going to get them the fish and which types are going to end in failure.

Being safe in the act of fishing is one of the major concerns fly fisherman have. Because the bed of moving waters is usually covered in slimy residue, slipping on rocks and falling down is a common occurrence. Obtain boots that have extra texture to them for gripping rocks with more success, and also get to know the surrounding area by scouting it out before fishing in it.
