Sleep is Important, Snoring is not!

By: Charles W Belle

Ever since I was a little kid, I?m talking two and three years old, I remember the horrific sounds I heard coming from by parents bedroom and my older sisters bedroom. At first, I remember being frightened, thinking this was the sound of the famous ?Night Stalking Boogie Man?, who hid in the closet and under the bed during the day. But after hunting down the sound with my toy wiffle ball bat, I discovered it was weird noise coming from my parent?s faces, when they were sleeping! There were some variations between the noises coming from my dad and mom and after checking my sister?s noise, she was different also.

I never really knew the proper name for that noise, ?The Boogieman Noise?, until I was five or six. This is when my little brother and sister would join me, and ?Girl dog? our German Sheppard, in the middle of the night, at my parent?s bedroom door. We would sit at the bedroom door and discuss, in whispers, what the heck was this horrible noise that woke us up every night, Girl dog couldn?t talk, so she wasn?t much help, but her head continually twisted from left to right as the decibel range increased and decreased. Then we?d go to our big sissy?s room and do the same at her door, till we got sleepy again, and shuffled back to our beds, listening to who could make the most noise with our footsy slippers sewed to the bottoms of our jammie feet, on the bare oak flooring.

It was just an hour or so after we got to bed we woke up abruptly, hearing my mom screaming at our pops saying ?can you please stop snoring, I can?t ever get a decent night?s sleep because of your blankety blank snoring! I?m gonna get some furnace tape and tape your mouth shut! Blah blah blah! And then out of nowhere, we heard my big sissy join in, in a shrill shriek, What about your snoring momma!? Stop snoring please! No wonder I?m getting C?s at school, I?m half asleep at school everyday cuz I can?t get any sleep at night! Your snoring wakes me up first, then dad?s snoring keeps me up, I almost put a sock in your mouth last night.

That?s when the three of us little kids came in and yelled, ?Is snoring that horrible noise all of you make every night that wakes us up every night? Can we please sleep out in the garage from now on, we asked, so we could get some sleep? They all started laughing because this was the first time in years, they became aware that they all snored loud enough to shake the roll up shades on the windows, and how disruptive it was and how negatively it affected all involved, at work, at home and in school.

It wasn?t long after that, that we moved into a much bigger house and everybody slept in their own rooms, it was always quiet after that, and their wasn?t anymore screaming argument about snoring, there also wasn?t anymore little sissies and no more little brothers that came to live with us anymore. I think now, how nice it would have been if my folks had a computer, the internet and search engines to find an e-book on ?snore no more? or ?stop snoring help?. And how much closer we were in that little house and how many more sisters and brothers we might have had to play with, if they would have.
