Arthritis is a complex disorder comprising several conditions, but the predominant one is joint pain. Though there are more than a hundred different types of arthritis joint pain but the most common are osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and gout. Anyone can be affected at any time in their life by arthritis, from the youngest to the elderly and everyone in-between. However, it's perhaps understandable that it is most likely to occur in people of an older age, since their bones and joints will have endured more natural wear and tear over the years than their younger counterparts. As you get older, more dead cells and toxic waste will form in your blood, leading to the degradation of your joint bones and letting arthritis in. Although arthritis can strike anyone at any time of their life, most cases of arthritis occurs in people who are older. Aging appears to be a major contributive factor to arthritis joint pains - a fact that is understandable as everyone goes through a considerable amount of wear and tear in their joints as they grow older. Organizations like the Mayo Clinic also advise that you are more cautionary when going about your everyday business, and this in turn will protect your joints. For instance, they suggest: Use your strongest joint and reduce the burden on your weaker joints. Try to carry things with your palm open, for instance. It will distribute the weight equally over your forearm. Don’t lift things off the counter or workbench; just slide them along the surface. Protect your little finger more. An example of this would be to brush crumbs on a worktop or table TOWARDS you, as opposed to away from you. This stops undue stress being placed on the weakest finger on your hand. Don’t make a tight fist for too long. Also don’t hold things for too long. The idea is not to stress your thumb and fingers. So, instead of holding things with your fingers try to hold a book, mug, or other things in the palm of your hand. If you've been reading a book for some time, use a book holder instead of continually supporting the book with your fingers. Exercise those joints. Freedom of motion is one of the things that you may have to forsake if you suffer from arthritis joint pain. The longer you suffer, the shorter range of movement you will have at your disposal. You can avoid this by moving your joints through their full pain-free range of motion. Do this at least once a day and observe the results. The best way to ensure your joints are being protected is to differentiate between arthritic problems and normal everyday joint stiffness. By knowing what caused you to experience the pain in the first place, you can avoid that in the future, allowing you to concentrate on the more important aspect of dealing with your arthritic pain.
