Hey, thanks for reading my article. I just want to assure you that you are at the right place, if you want to know how to find who the websites linking to your web properties are. I was in your position many years ago when I was first starting and the information wasn't so readily accessible. Luckily for you I want to share that info with so, so you can be up and running in no time. I will shate with you the free tool that I have been using for so long. First, why do you need to know the number of the websites that link to your web property? The answer is simple - you want to know whether your link building efforts are paying off. If you are building links to a website or blog over time their number should grow and not only that but you website should go up in the search engine rankings. Before I move on I want to tell you something - even though you want to rank high in Google, never use the main search engine to find the number of number of websites that link to yours. The reason is simple - Google does not want you to know that, because if they did you could easily see all the websites that link to the top website for the keyword you want to rank for and just build more links than them and outrank them. In other words you will be able to trick the search engines. For that reason we are going to be using Yahoo. Of course, using Yahoo won't give them the exact number of website linking to ours for many reasons one of them being that it is somehow slow compared to Google in finding new links but nevertheless you will be able to see how the number of inbound links grows over time. Another restriction of this approach for finding the websites that link to your website or blog is that Yahoo shows only 1000 of them. So if there is, say 1500 sites that link to yours you will be able to see the first 1000 only. Now, wiht that out of our way head on to Yahoo.com and type in linkdomain:yourwebsite.com and you will see the number of backlinks to your website. You need to make distinction between the number of websites that link to your blog or site and the number of links to it. It is possible that you have 100 websites that link to your website and 500 links to it because one website can have multiple links to your website. If you need to know the actual number of websites linking to your web property you can use a tool called Magestic SEO. It is paid and the lowest monthly plan is about $16 but if you are serious about your online business - it is well worth it. You can use the tool to spy on your top competition and get links from the same sources that get their links. Another useful tool even though more expensive one is called Market Samurai. It goes for a onetime fee of $160. It uses yahoo to show you the number of websites that link to yours and thus suffering from the same limitations as Yahoo. What makes it worth buying is that it also shows you the page rank of the websites as well as the anchor text they use to link. Again, you can use that to spy on your competition and steal links from high page ranks site only. You can see their weaknesses as well. For example - if only 10% of the links to your competitor contain the keyword you after as an anchor text you can take that and make sure that you have the keyword as an anchor text in say 20% of the links you build to your website. Doing that will allow you to outrank it even if you have less links than them. We have been talking about finding the number of websites that link to your website, that suggests that other websites owners have found your website and decided to place a link to it. It is always nice when it happens but the truth is that in reality we can't wait on other website owners to link to our websites. We need to build the links that we need to rank high on the search engines ourselves. And my favorite way for doing it is called article marketing. In short this is writing and submitting articles to different article directories to get links to your main website. As far as I know that's the best way to get a lot of links fast and easy. Article marketing can be done manually and can be automated. If you are just starting out you most likely need to do it manually. It is just visiting different article directory sites such as ezinearticles.com, creating accounts and submitting your articles. The cons of this strategy is that it is time-consuming. That's why I prefer the automated way. Sure, the tool that automates the process costs money but it is an investment that is well worth it. It goes out and creates accounts on thousands of article directories (the one that I have currently does it on 1400), activates them by logging into your email and clicking the activation links and posts articles. The initial account creation process takes about an hour and after that writing, spinning and submitting an article takes about 30 minutes. From my experience with each article I submit I get about 300 links which is pretty good result for 30 minutes of work. If you take in consideration the fact that usually it takes about 1000 links to rank a website you can see what a time saver and productivity booster the article submission software is. You can work on a few websites simultaneously thus making more money. After the tool submits the articles you can go back in a few days to see how many of them have been published and take the urls and have them indexed.
