The definition of FITNESS:. Good health or physical condition, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition........American Heritage Dictionary; Any kind of energy exerting activity that stimulates the heart and makes it pump beyond it's normal rate will improve fitness. This kind of activity (exercise) will deliver more oxygen to the body and strengthen your heart. This in itself will enable you to feel a definite difference in the way you feel, with more energy and endurance, less stiff and agile, and able to participate in activities that didn't even seem possible before. If you don't include exercise into your diet program the chances of you controling your weight are not to good. Losing weight is only part of the equation, you need to be fit, free of heart straining problems (stronger heart). Choosing an exercise program should include activities you won't get bored with and should include routines that will most effect the areas of concern. If you have a full body weight problem, then a robust full body workout is in order. When you first start out in your exercise program, be sure to burn more fat by using intense cardio workouts. Resistance type exercises will be kept as a small amount of your program at first until the weight is coming off. Be sure not to over do it in the beginning. If you have been following your exercise program regularly and your losing weight, you are now in a position to take your workout program to the next step. As a general rule, the first few weeks of your fitness program should be mostly cardio type workouts since you are still at the stage of burning as many calories as possible. 20% resistance and 80% cardio at the start can now be moved to 30% resistance and 70% cardio, provided you are getting positive results. Most people will probabably be at the level of 60% resistance and 40% cardio once you have gotten to your ideal weight. The majority of people simply want to look like they don't need to workout. You now have achieved getting to the point of simply keeping in shape. If you feel you are now at your proper weight and want to start sculpting your body, your routines might be divided up at only 20% cardio and 80% resistance workouts. With an hour exercise program you would be devoting only about ten minutes to cardio and fifty minutes to bodybuilding (resistance training). In order for your workouts to have fitness conditioning results with heart strenghtening, weight loss or body building, they must be somewhat intense and done on a regular basis with long enough workouts or physical activity (Don't over do it, especially in the beginning). Here are a some examples of cardio type activities: Speed walking, jogging, hiking, running in place, calisthenics, aerobics, swimming, biking, etc. Get your heart pumping faster and your doing cardio. Both young and old people can benefit from fitness training. Researchers now know that frail people in nursing homes have been found to have increased muscle strenghth if they exercise. Sedentary lifestyles can be an elderly persons reason for poor health. Including physical activity into your life is like an extra insurance policy that everyone should make part of their life. Researchers have also concluded that exercise can reduce premature death up to 50% and also help generate new brain cells in older people. So, losing weight and looking good is only a small part of the importance of following a sound continuous diet and fitness program. Once you have been steadily involved in a program, you will not only notice physical positive changes but psychological as well. Exercise releases brain chemicals called endorphines that will give you a natural high.(runners high). To remain healthy and fit into your years, you must not ever quit since all the benefits you recieved while you were active in a fitness program will be lost not long after you decided to quit. This includes all the problems associated with obesity, plus your strength and stamina will decrease and any blood pressure or cholesterol challenges you may of had. Exercise may very well be the one thing we all have at our disposal that can keep us as young and fit as nature will allow.
