Edinburgh, Scotland's Capital City

Edinburgh, Scotland's charming festival city has so much to offer tourists from all over the world. It is a city of ancient and modern attractions, with sights and sounds for all ages. Edinburgh has to be one of the top cities to visit in the UK, if not Western Europe and millions of visitors go there each year

Edinburgh situated on the northern edge of the Lothian region, in the central east lowlands of Scotland. Historically, Edinburgh has been around since almost the very early ages of time and has several interests to keep visitor enlightened. Renowned for being one of the most beautiful and polished places in the UK, the past glories are evident as soon as enter this city. The ancient buildings of the old town and Robert Adam finesse of the New town are there to be enjoyed. Many buildings are of such historical importance that they are retained on a register.

Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile is the centrepiece of the city, with the castle majestically overlooking the beautiful Prince's Street Gardens and its shopping thoroughfare. The most important buildings in Scotland are located here, The Law Courts, St. Giles Cathedral and the new Parliament building. The Palace of Holyroodhouse and nearby Arthurs seat are also worth a visit

It need not be forgotten, Edinburgh is a city of remarkable contrasts. It has been renowned for its tremendous array of arts and culture. In the month of August each year, the city hosts the world famous International Festival, including the Festival Fringe and Tattoo. The city during this time is invaded by many visitors who swell the present population twice over. During the month of August, the city is a place that hardly sleeps, when its International Festival is in full swing. The best spectacle is to be found at the castle esplanade where the splendid formation of several pipe bands and army displays play a major part in the annual Military Tattoo. The experience of the occasion is sure to impress any tourist or local alike as each year is never a identical show. The sound of the many bagpipes against the majestic backdrop of the castle is something never to forget.

Whilst the International Festival is running, there is also the Fringe, where many performing artists from around the world display their fantastic abilities. The International Film Festival is also performed alongside the Fringe, which is renowned as one of the biggest for performing arts.
