This means that if a loved one has a problem while they are at home, there are only a few precious moments to try to save their life. Unfortunately, a rescue squad can't get there as fast as they would like, so it may be up to you to save the life of your loved one. Having the right training can be the difference between life and death for your family member.

CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is a procedure that includes providing artificial respiration and chest compressions to someone who has stopped breathing or whose heart has ceased to beat. The compressions used in CPR help to make sure that blood flow continues throughout the body, which helps to keep the brain and tissues alive until more medical help arrives.

The technique of CPR is actually something you can learn online at sites like http://depts.washington.edu/learncpr/ but it is highly recommended that you actually take the CPR training course since you will be training with a cpr manikin that makes the training realistic. Also the instructor will teach you how to deal with different scenarios that you wont find in the basic online guides this will improve your technique.

The American Heart Association is one place that often offers CPR courses, and the Red Cross offers CPR training as well. Other local community colleges or hospitals may also offer CPR and First Aid training for a reasonable fee.

For someone who has a cardiac arrest, every second counts. Each minute that goes by without CPR or some type of life saving technique decreases the chance of survival at least 7% if not more. However, if CPR is given, it gives them a 50% better chance of surviving. Being able to give CPR to a friend, relative, or even a stranger will give them the best chance possible of survival.

There is a bit more to a CPR course than just learning basic CPR. You will learn other emergency medical procedures as well, such as First Aid and how to help someone if they are choking. No doubt all the procedures you learn in the class will be invaluable, and one day they may help you to save the life of someone you love.
